City of Bay City recently issued the following announcement.
This #TBT gives our longtime Water Distribution/Metering workers back pain just looking at it! The old push machine pictured is what we used to use to bore a hole as part of a water service line replacement. It’s a practice we do quite a bit as part of our ongoing Lead Abatement Program. This piece of equipment was retired in 2019 and replaced with a more user-friendly machine called a Kobus Pipe Puller.
The Kobus requires some set up – then the machine does the bulk of the work. It removes an old water line and installs a new line all in one step. Meantime, the old push machine required our team to manually place the push box into the ground before using the rods to bore a horizontal hole. The push machine was heavy and labor intensive.
Bottom-line, we are grateful for this Kobus! It’s more efficient, quicker and requires less excavating. If you’d like to see it in action watch this video: https://youtu.be/eMvBi34VI4s
