Representative Bill G. Schuette, a Republican from Midland and member of the House Appropriations Committee, issued a statement regarding the committee's recent vote on Strategic Outreach and Attraction Reserve (SOAR) Fund investments. The funding includes allocations for Dow Inc., located in Midland, which is part of Schuette's 95th House District.

Schuette expressed concerns about certain aspects of other spending plans and emphasized the need for "robust transparency and accountability guardrails" when taxpayer dollars are involved in such ventures. He noted his attempt to ensure each transfer would be evaluated individually with its own vote before the committee, but this motion was not approved.

Despite these concerns, Schuette supported the investment in Dow Inc., stating it is vital for the region. "With these resources, the Great Lakes Bay Region can continue to position itself as a community of choice, a leader in multiple industries and a thriving area of career and population growth," he said.

He highlighted Dow Inc.'s significant role as one of the area's largest employers and its long-standing presence in the community for nearly 130 years. According to Schuette, this investment will benefit the community for many years ahead.
