State Representative Timmy Beson from Bay City has expressed concern over the potential impact of certain legislative measures on Michigan's economy. In a statement, Rep. Beson criticized House Democrats for not addressing issues such as the elimination of the tipped wage and stringent requirements imposed on job providers regarding paid sick time.

Rep. Beson warned, "Without legislative intervention before February, workers will lose their jobs, businesses will close, and Michigan’s economy will suffer." He emphasized the importance of protecting constituents and limiting government overreach while advocating for reforms that consider all perspectives.

The Earned Sick Time Act (ESTA) is at the center of these concerns. According to Rep. Beson, ESTA would impose extensive regulations on job providers across Michigan, potentially forcing them to make significant changes even if they already have compliant policies. The act mandates expanded sick leave for all employees, including full-time workers, seasonal staff, and subcontractors. It also alters notification requirements that could lead to staffing challenges and costly legal disputes between businesses and employees.

Rep. Beson stated that these mandates could negatively affect local economies by eliminating jobs and causing businesses to either shut down or relocate. He called for "constructive conversations" and a more effective approach instead of what he described as current inaction.
