State Rep. Bill Schuette | Michigan House Republicans
On Tax Day, Representative Bill G. Schuette highlighted concerns over changes in taxes that will impact the savings of Michiganders. Schuette emphasized the impact of Democrat-driven changes that will result in people keeping less of their earnings in the future.
Schuette pointed out the significance of a state income tax cut from 4.25% to 4.05% that had been secured by Republicans in 2015 but was reversed due to legislative actions by Democrats. This change led to an increase in individual income tax rates, contrary to the promise of returning more money to taxpayers.
The Representative expressed his disappointment, stating, "We have seen state government blow through a $9 billion surplus and commit over $80 billion in spending for the current fiscal year. It is a backwards approach to reach back into taxpayer pockets for more spending money and make our state a less affordable place to live, work and raise a family in the process."
Schuette also highlighted his efforts in advocating for tax relief for Michigan residents by sponsoring measures that enhanced the Earned Income Tax Credit and made it retroactive, ensuring immediate savings for families across the state.
