FOIA Request Sent to Midland County Election Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025

FOIA Request to Midland County Election Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

In a bid to ensure comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Tri-City Sun have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Midland County Election Division. The request was made under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act § 15.231 et seq., and seeks information about all candidates running in the upcoming election.

Specifically, we requested an electronic format list of all candidates that includes their first, middle, and last names. Additionally, we asked for details about the office they are running for, the jurisdiction of that office, and their party affiliation.

In our pursuit of transparency and accountability, we also requested contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.

As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive news coverage on local governmental affairs, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. We believe this information will greatly aid in holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

We are hopeful that our eligibility for a fee waiver as a media professional will be recognized given our role in disseminating information. We eagerly await the response from the Midland County Election Division and look forward to sharing this vital information with our readership soon.
