State Representative Mike Hoadley has introduced a bill aiming to change the rules surrounding gun-free zones. House Bill 4213 proposes that individuals with a Concealed Pistol License (CPL) be allowed to carry their weapons in areas currently designated as gun-free.

Hoadley stated, "Individuals who are licensed to carry concealed weapons undergo additional training, screening, and education." He emphasized that these license holders are among the safest citizens and are capable of responding effectively if a threat arises.

The representative argues that expanding gun rights for responsible citizens could help reduce gun violence and crime within these zones. "Bad actors and those looking to do harm don’t abide by the laws and limitations of gun-free zones," Hoadley said. He added that having trained gun owners present could enhance safety, noting that many CPL holders are veterans or former law enforcement officers.
