The Michigan House of Representatives has appointed State Representative Mike Hoadley as the Chair of the Economic Competitiveness Committee for the 2025-2026 legislative term. The announcement was made by Speaker Matt Hall.
Hoadley, who has experience in business as a former customer relations manager at Darton Archery and co-owner of Hunters Niche Inc., will bring his insights from the small business sector to his new role. Reflecting on recent challenges faced by small business owners, Hoadley emphasized the importance of maintaining Michigan's economic competitiveness. "There have been many challenges facing our hardworking small business owners over the past few years," said Hoadley, representing Au Gres. He stressed that Michigan must compete not only with neighboring states but also on an international level, particularly with rapidly advancing countries like China.
Hoadley called for a state government that supports rather than hinders small businesses. "State government also must listen to small business owners and work as a good partner on their behalf, not hamstring them with burdensome regulation and overreach that we have seen."
He highlighted investment in innovation and workforce development as key strategies for sustaining Michigan's appeal as a hub for businesses and job opportunities. "By investing in innovation and workforce development, we can ensure Michigan continues to be considered as a home for business and fertile ground for job opportunities," he stated.
In addition to his leadership role on the Economic Competitiveness Committee, Hoadley will serve on several other committees: Election Integrity, Natural Resources and Tourism, and Regulatory Reform.
