City of Saginaw issued the following announcement on Jan 28.
"We also host the Saginaw County Sports Hall of Fame here. That's a whole different genre of history that appeals to an entirely different audience, but it’s still very important. There's a long and illustrious history of sports accomplishments here from people that have some affiliation with Saginaw County. The Hall of Fame is its own separate organization, but it's a really wonderful collaboration that we work with those guys. We provide the site for their exhibits, and for them to display their artifacts. It's important to collaborate with as many people as possible. Different people bring different aspects of history.
It’s incredibly important to understand and preserve history. Looking forward, one of the challenges is identifying what is happening right now that we need to make sure that we're documenting. You don't just wait until 50 years from now when someone happens to go through an attic and finds a bunch of history.
So, we consciously preserve items and document history we think is interesting and would be noteworthy and valuable in the future. Not only are we preserving history that has happened in the past, but we're making an effort to be conscious in preserving history that's happening right now as we speak….that's tomorrow's history.
I think if we can do that in the right way and make sure that we tell the stories of everyone: ethnicities, genders, ages, anything. Because when you combine that all together, that's us. That's our community.”
