The Michigan House of Representatives has approved State Representative Bill G. Schuette’s resolution recognizing the importance of Lyme Disease awareness. Schuette's House Resolution 238 designates May as National Lyme Disease Awareness Month in Michigan.

During the House session, Schuette emphasized the significance of raising awareness about Lyme Disease, which affects hundreds of thousands of individuals nationwide, including many in Michigan. He highlighted the need for early detection and treatment of the tick-borne illness, noting its potential long-term consequences if left untreated.

“Unfortunately, many people don’t realize they have Lyme Disease until it has already caused lasting harm,” said State Representative Bill G. Schuette. “There are almost half a million new cases in the U.S. every year, and cases in Michigan have been rising every year since 2012 according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It’s important to raise awareness for this disease that impacts people across our communities and help prevent cases in the future.”

The resolution was met with approval and adopted by acclamation through a voice vote in the Michigan House, underscoring the bipartisan support for increasing awareness of Lyme Disease. As part of preventive measures, individuals are urged to take precautions such as checking for ticks on clothing and skin after outdoor activities, wearing protective clothing in tick-prone areas, maintaining tick-free environments, and ensuring pets are protected from ticks.

Schuette expressed gratitude towards constituents Jill and Steve Sklenar, as well as Sue and Larry Kurin, for their advocacy and efforts in highlighting the importance of the resolution. The 95th House District, encompassing Midland County and portions of Gladwin County, has been actively engaged in promoting Lyme Disease awareness.

In a photo released from the House session, State Representative Bill G. Schuette is seen addressing the importance of House Resolution 238, declaring May as National Lyme Disease Awareness Month in Michigan. The resolution aims to educate the public about the risks associated with Lyme Disease and promote proactive measures to mitigate its impact on communities.
