Known for his aggressive play and refusal to wear a helmet until mandated, he earned six All-Pro selections. He later played for the Philadelphia Eagles and the wartime Steagles. Over nine seasons, he recorded 103 receptions, 1,638 yards, and 23 touchdowns. His jersey number 56 was retired by the Bears. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1971.
