State Rep. Matthew Bierlein welcomed City of Vassar Police Chief Ben Guile to the state Capitol on Thursday, Sept. 11, for a ceremony commemorating the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. The event recognized first responders and members of the military from Michigan, including those who have recently died in the line of duty.

During the ceremony, Bierlein read the name of State Trooper Joel Popp, who was struck and killed last January while assisting with an investigation on the side of a highway.

Bierlein represents the city of Vassar as part of the 97th House District.
