Jerry Neyer, Michigan State Representative for 92nd District | Michigan House Republicans
State Representative Jerry Neyer, a Republican from Shepherd, expressed his support for President Trump's policies aimed at enabling potash mining in Michigan. Neyer released a statement following the successful passage of House Resolution 99, which he spearheaded.
Neyer highlighted the significance of the potash deposits located beneath Osceola and Mecosta counties. He emphasized that these deposits are "the highest-grade potash deposit known anywhere in the world" and noted the importance of potash in agricultural fertilizer production. According to Neyer, this mineral can enhance crop yields, improve water retention, and increase food quality.
The United States currently imports 92% of its potash. Neyer believes that Michigan has the potential to change this dependency by utilizing its own resources. He stated that the proposed facility by Michigan Potash & Salt Company in Evart could create numerous construction jobs and over 150 permanent positions while supporting rural communities.
Neyer asserted that Michigan is prepared for this development as "the permits are in place" and demand is increasing. He called for bipartisan support and proper oversight to ensure that Michigan becomes a leader in America's mineral future with secure, sustainable, and locally sourced production.
