State Representative Brian BeGole is advocating for significant funding to support renovations at Showboat Park in Chesaning. BeGole has proposed allocating $125,000 for this project, which will be reviewed during the state budget process for the next fiscal year. This marks the first instance where all requests for dedicated funding have been made publicly accessible, ensuring transparency and accountability.

Rep. BeGole highlighted the importance of the park, stating, "The park is woven into the fabric of the Chesaning community and is in a beautiful spot right on the banks of the Shiawassee River." He reminisced about past events held there: "I remember when the area hosted several concerts with some real high-profile performers. The level of excitement and the amount of people who would frequent the park was really off the charts."

If approved, this funding would facilitate necessary improvements including restoring a deteriorated amphitheater and replacing damaged seating with a grass hillside. It would also involve removing two collapsing building structures.

The House has received over 800 budget submissions amounting to more than $4 billion in total requests. These are available online for public viewing at house.mi.gov/LegislativelyDirectedSpendingItems.
