State Rep. Bill Schuette | Michigan House Republicans
Representative Bill G. Schuette of Midland has responded to Governor Gretchen Whitmer's State of the State address with a statement highlighting his concerns about the lack of detailed policy proposals. In his remarks, Schuette noted the importance of tangible solutions and expressed skepticism about the governor's broad proposals.
"It was nice to actually see Gov. Whitmer in Lansing and at the Capitol today," said Schuette. However, he emphasized that achieving progress with a divided government will require specific policies rather than general ideas. "Getting anything done with divided government in Lansing will require real solutions and real policy specifics, something we did not hear in detail from the Governor tonight."
Schuette contrasted this with what he sees as the proactive approach taken by House Republicans, who have focused on issues such as protecting restaurant servers' tips and finding ways to improve roads without increasing taxes. "House Republicans continue to lead by example and with real tangible policies," he stated.
He also pointed out that there are significant challenges facing Michigan that need legislative attention. To ensure representation for all areas, Schuette urged Governor Whitmer to call a special election for the 35th State Senate District, which includes Midland, Bay, and Saginaw County. He believes this step is necessary for providing these regions an equal voice in state governance.
