State Representative Timmy Beson has been appointed as the chair of a House Appropriations Subcommittee focusing on the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs and the Department of Insurance and Financial Services. Beson will also be part of the House Appropriations Committee and several other subcommittees related to appropriations, providing Bay County residents with representation in budgetary decisions.

"I am honored to be named to this role," said Beson, from Bay City. "The budget process is a critical part of our role as legislators. I am excited to get to work in a responsible way that respects taxpayers and ensures the very best return on their investments. This has been missing in a big way the last few years. We have seen massive amounts of taxpayer dollars used for corporate incentives, pet projects, and other things that don’t put people first. Our approach needs to change."

The House Appropriations Committee oversees the annual state budget and additional state spending, reviewing legislation affecting budget implementation and public policies with significant financial impacts. Beson brings experience to this position, having served on the committee during each of his past two terms.

Beson's responsibilities extend to serving on House Appropriations subcommittees covering Corrections and Judiciary; Human Services; as well as School Aid and the Department of Education.

He represents Michigan's 96th House District, which includes Bay City, Essexville, and several townships including Bangor, Beaver, Frankenlust, Fraser, Garfield, Hampton, Kawkawlin, Merritt, Monitor, and Portsmouth.
