State Representative Bill G. Schuette has been appointed to chair the House Rules Committee for the 2025-26 legislative term. This committee plays a key role in evaluating legislation related to administrative rulemaking authority.
Bills that amend administrative rules must first be reviewed by the House Rules Committee before they can proceed to the full House. Additionally, legislation that remains on the House floor for over two weeks may be referred back to this committee. As Chair, Schuette will also join the House Republican leadership team.
Besides his new role as Chair of the House Rules Committee, Schuette will serve on several other important committees, including the House Finance Committee, the House Insurance Committee, and the House Judiciary Committee.
“I am honored to be chosen by Speaker Hall to Chair this important committee,” said Schuette. “It will be my focus as committee Chair to ensure that policy solutions and administrative rules that come from our Michigan House Republican Caucus and go to the Michigan House are delivering efficient, real results for the people of Michigan and not bureaucratic red tape."
Schuette emphasized his commitment to addressing priorities such as making life more affordable, repairing local roads, and cutting government red tape. He highlighted how serving on these committees would benefit constituents in Midland and Gladwin counties by providing them with representation in legislative discussions.
Furthermore, Schuette was appointed to the Michigan Legislative Council—a bipartisan body offering services like bill drafting and research—to which only six members of the Michigan House are selected.
In addition, he was named Chair of the House Select Committee on Protecting Michigan Employees and Small Businesses at the start of this term. In this capacity, he led efforts to advance reforms aimed at helping workers maintain their livelihoods amid state Supreme Court mandates affecting wages and earned sick leave.
