Dow has announced nine projects to be supported through its 2024 Business Impact Fund. This fund, now in its ninth year, involves collaboration with NGOs, nonprofit organizations, Dow customers, and employees to address social or sustainability challenges within Dow communities globally.
Bob Plishka, global director of Strategic Corporate Partnerships and president of the Dow Company Foundation, stated: “A thriving community is a shared future. That’s why, through the Business Impact Fund, we catalyze the immense passion of our people, and our technical expertise and resources alongside that of diverse partners to address issues like food waste, insufficient or unstable housing, and circularity. We see it as both our responsibility and privilege to help build healthy, safe and sustainable communities.”
Among this year's projects are two pilot initiatives where previous projects receive additional funding via continuity grants for further development.
In Colombia, two new projects aim to enhance sports facilities in cities such as Bogotá and Cartagena using eco-friendly paint solutions while addressing food waste by supporting local food banks.
Kenya's Ujenzi Fiti project focuses on affordable housing through partnerships with local NGOs and training institutions. The initiative will construct model homes using locally sourced materials.
Mexico's ReBuild project targets sustainable housing for indigenous Maya people using recycled plastic waste in construction materials.
In Türkiye, efforts are underway to train locals in construction skills following a devastating earthquake in 2023.
The United States sees Project Alaska improving home insulation for Native Alaskans. Additionally, a project spanning the U.S. and Canada aims to revitalize homes with sustainable paint technology.
Continuity grant projects include Brazil's Project Ybá promoting non-timber forest products for Amazon conservation and South Africa's Oliver’s Village enhancing agricultural education.
Since 2016, the Impact Fund has supported 65 projects across 23 countries with nearly $14 million invested. Outcomes include job creation, material recycling, CO2 emission reduction, and plastic diversion from landfills.
