State Representative Timmy Beson has played a key role in advancing a development project aimed at enhancing recreational opportunities in Bay County. The project focuses on the Niagara Woods Preserve in Bay City, where plans include constructing accessible trails, providing shoreline fishing access, and creating a nature play area.

Beson was instrumental in moving Senate Bill 817 forward, which secures funding for this initiative. "This will create even more recreational opportunities for people throughout the city," Beson stated. He emphasized the importance of revitalizing existing areas while preserving natural elements, adding that formal river access has long been sought by residents.

The project's total cost is estimated at $463,000. Of this amount, $300,000 will be sourced from the state's Natural Resources Trust Fund, with additional funding coming from local contributions. The Trust Fund's resources are derived from mineral development on state land and are allocated annually in collaboration with local governments.

In December 2023, the Natural Resources Trust Fund board approved its recommendations for such projects. Last week, these projects received overwhelming support from the Michigan House of Representatives and are now awaiting the governor's signature.
