FOIA Request Sent to Gratiot County Election Division Regarding Pre-Election Voting Machine Test Reports on October 30, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Gratiot County Election Division in Michigan on October 30, 2024. The request, made by us at Tri-City Sun, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, sought detailed reports about pre-election testing of voting machines.

Specifically, we requested electronic copies of the test reports for each voting machine used in the county's elections. These reports were asked to include key details such as the date of the test, the manufacturer of the machine, its model number, and whether it passed or failed during testing.

As a media organization committed to public transparency and accountability, we believe that access to these records is essential for our reporting duties. We also stated our eligibility for a fee waiver given our role in disseminating this information to the public.

The goal behind this request is to ensure that all voting machines used in Gratiot County's elections are functioning correctly and accurately recording votes. This is part of our ongoing effort at Tri-City Sun to provide thorough coverage of local government affairs and promote transparency in our democratic processes.
