FOIA Request Sent to Saginaw County Election Division Regarding Pre-Election Voting Machine Test Reports on October 30, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Saginaw County Election Division on October 30, 2024. The request, issued by us at Tri-City Sun, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, sought access to pre-election voting machine test reports.

The requested records are under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act § 15.231 et seq., and preferably in electronic format. Specifically, we asked for the elections voting machines pre-election test report in PDF format with the following fields: Test date, Machine Manufacture, Machine Model Number, and Machine Status (Pass or Failed).

As a media organization committed to transparency and public accountability, we believe that access to these public records is crucial for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. We aim to hold public institutions accountable while providing comprehensive news coverage that ensures transparency for the public.

We also mentioned our eligibility for a fee waiver as a media professional given our role in disseminating information to the public.
