State Rep. Mike Hoadley recently engaged with local community leaders to address the neglected state of the Au Gres River Public Access site in Sims Township. The confusion surrounding maintenance responsibilities between the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the Army Corps of Engineers has led to the site's deterioration over the years, prompting residents to demand action.
Hoadley, emphasizing the importance of community involvement, organized a meeting at the site to discuss plans for restoration. He acknowledged the community's proactive stance, stating, "One of the greatest things about rural communities are the people who are willing to step up to do what needs to be done rather than wait on bureaucracies to take responsibility."
Expressing gratitude towards the participants, Hoadley recognized the value of their time and effort, saying, "I know that any amount of time that can be spared will be appreciated by the community and people who love the great outdoors in our neck of the woods."
The Au Gres River Public Access site, known for its scenic walkway along the river leading to Saginaw Bay, offers residents a serene environment for various recreational activities. From fishing to leisurely walks and boat watching, the site serves as a significant recreational destination for the region.
In an effort to revitalize the site, volunteers are encouraged to participate in a cleanup event scheduled for Saturday, May 11, starting at 9 a.m. Those interested in joining the initiative can reach out to the city of Au Gres or Rep. Hoadley's office for further details at 517-373-1789.
