Enrollment at Chesaning Union Schools decreased by 2% compared to previous school year

There were 1,419 students enrolled in Chesaning Union Schools in the 2022-23 school year, 2% less than the previous year, according to the Michigan Department of Education.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 50.2% of them were girls, and 49.8% were boys.

Data also shows that most of the students were white, representing 89.9% of the Chesaning Union Schools total enrollment.

Chesaning Union Schools covers four schools within Saginaw County with its main office in Chesaning. Among them, Chesaning Middle School recorded the highest enrollment of 557 students in the 2022-23 school year.

Overall student enrollment in Michigan remains below pre-pandemic levels, white students experiencing the largest decline at 6.5%.

Academic performance has also suffered, with the state's average NAEP score dropping by 6.5 points and ethnic achievement gaps widening. Black and Hispanic students' average math proficiency dropped by 7% in 2022, to 13.5% and 28.2%, respectively.
