State Representative Bill G. Schuette and State Senator Roger Hauck have expressed their satisfaction with a recent announcement from the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) regarding an infrastructure grant for the city of Beaverton. The grant, aimed at funding water system improvement projects, will bring crucial upgrades to the residents of Beaverton.

The approved projects will involve the replacement of old undersized watermains and the installation of new watermains at several locations within the city. Additionally, new source wells, updated storage tanks and control systems, a backup generator, and new water meters will be included in the projects.

Representative Schuette, who represents Beaverton as part of the 95th Michigan House District, emphasized the importance of these upgrades: "These are critical upgrades to the City of Beaverton and help ensure those families and households living in Beaverton will have important upgrades to their water infrastructure." He further affirmed his commitment to fighting for investments in communities like Beaverton during the appropriations process.

Senator Hauck, representing Beaverton as part of the 34th Michigan Senate District, echoed the sentiment and highlighted the significance of ensuring clean and safe water for residents: "People and their families expect and deserve clean, safe water when they turn on their faucet, and these upgrades from older equipment will ensure that continues to be the case." He expressed his belief that the funding will contribute to key improvements for the residents of Beaverton.

Karen Moore, Chair of the Gladwin County Board of Commissioners and representative of Beaverton on the Gladwin County Commission, expressed her gratitude to Rep. Schuette and Sen. Hauck for their efforts in securing the grant: "I want to thank Rep. Schuette and Sen. Hauck for their help in securing this important grant for Beaverton. This is an important grant for the Gladwin community, and I look forward to working with the City of Beaverton and our state officials in its implementation."

The grant, administered through EGLE and funded by the federal American Rescue Plan, is estimated to cover a project cost of $10.3 million. Approximately $1.9 million will be allocated for planning and design, while the remaining $8.4 million will be dedicated to construction and implementation.

This grant represents a significant investment in Beaverton's water infrastructure, ensuring that residents have access to clean and reliable water. With the support of Rep. Schuette, Sen. Hauck, and local officials like Karen Moore, the city can look forward to improved water systems that meet the needs of its community.
