“There are two focuses with Calhoun Consulting and Youth Development. One of the focuses on working directly with K through 12 youth. We go into schools, detention centers, after school programs—wherever kids are—and do social-emotional wellness activities and enrichment.

The other focus is working with the adults who work or live with the youth we’re trying to help. We can do everything we can to help the youth, but if the adults surrounding them aren’t trained as well, it's not gonna work. So we work with leadership and staff within an organization or the parents and families of these kids to get everybody on the same page as to best help these kids.

I've always worked with young people. Even as a teen I was volunteering with churches and in schools and tutoring and things like that. Then I started working at Innerlink and realized there was a need in our community to help our youth at a higher level. I’ve never been the type of person to sit on the sidelines and watch a problem. I want to do something that's important and impactful, and when you work with kids, you can ‘get the biggest bang for your buck’. They're so full of life and potential and it's just like, how can you sit on the sidelines and just wait for somebody else to do something with that?

That’s why Calhoun Consulting and Youth Development began.”
