Coldwater Police Arrest Man for Catalytic Converter Theft

Coldwater Police arrested a 28-year-old man on February 12, 2023, for attempting to steal a catalytic converter from a vehicle parked on Industrial Ave. According to police, a witness called 9-1-1 shortly before 7 a.m. Sunday morning to report a man was cutting a catalytic converter from a Ford Ranger pickup truck.  When police arrived on the scene, the suspect fled on foot.  A K-9 unit from the Michigan State Police responded to the scene to assist, and the suspect was apprehended a short time later. Police report that the suspect, a 28-year-old Coldwater resident, was arrested and lodged at the Branch County Jail. This is one of several thefts of catalytic converters in recent months in the Branch County area.  In addition to the State Police, the Branch County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
