City Provides An Update On The Allocation Of ARPA Funds

The City of Saginaw would like to provide citizens with an update on the recent allocation of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds as approved by City Council at the November 28 Single Subject Special Meeting.

The public meeting to discuss the allocation of ARPA funds began at 5:30 pm in Council Chambers. After receiving input from the public, discussion was held among council members relating to the expenditure of ARPA funds for public health. City Council approved the following motions:

- Allocate $2.5 million of ARPA Revenue Loss funds and $2.5 million ARPA funds, for a total of $5 million, to assist with funding a Behavioral Health Clinic, to be located in the City of Saginaw, in cooperation with the Saginaw County Health Department.

- Approve to direct the City Manager and staff to review previously submitted ARPA proposals regarding public and mental health and bring back recommendations for further public health allocations.

Mayor Pro Tem Annie Boensch commented on the meeting, “We know we have many in our community who are not getting the treatment they require. Whether it is physical or mental health treatment, there is a huge need in our city and these needs have only been exacerbated by the pandemic. We believe this Behavioral Health Clinic will begin to fill the void in our community for mental health care. But we know there has to be more, which is why we’ve asked city staff to review and bring back additional recommendations for further allocation.” The council meeting is available to view on the City’s YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/CityofSaginawMI.
