November 2, 2022 – The City of Midland Wastewater Plant has notified the public of a sanitary sewer overflow event that resulted in the discharge of approximately 9,000 gallons of untreated sewage into the City’s storm sewer system.
At approximately 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday, November 1, a contractor boring an underground line hit a City sanitary sewer force main, resulting in the discharge of untreated sewage to enter the storm sewer network. This network discharges into the Tittabawassee River.
The breach has since been contained and, due to the size of the overflow, there is no perceived threat to public health and safety.
In accordance with state law, the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (ELGE) Quality and the Midland County Department of Public Health were notified of the overflow event.
