New GIS Coordinator, Nathaniel Jones

The Engineering Division of the Bay City Department of Public Works is pleased to introduce our new GIS Coordinator, Nathaniel Jones. Jones joined our team in late September. He will be managing GIS for DPW, as well as other departments. In addition, he will be working to maintain and further develop the City’s GIS data and its usage throughout.

Jones served in the United States Marine Corps for five years, achieving the rank of Sergeant. During this time, he had one combat deployment to Afghanistan with additional non-combat deployments to Japan and Korea. We thank him for his service! After his time with the Marine Corps, he attended Central Michigan University and received a degree in Geography and Environmental Land Use and Planning.

When asked why he chose this position, Jones replied, “I chose this job primarily because I wanted to help people. It is my philosophy that the work I do be aimed at improving lives rather than improving profits (of a corporate entity). I enjoy service and providing people with solutions to complex issues.”
