Bay City Department of Public Works recently issued the following announcement.
What’s a good way to show appreciation for postal workers on National Thank a Mail Carrier Day?
Shovel your sidewalk! Doing allows them to deliver the mail more efficiently, and most importantly, it’s safer for them.
There are also city ordinances requiring the removal of snow. Here they are…
Section 94-7 – No person shall allow the accumulation of snow or ice on the sidewalk adjoining any premises owned or occupied by him for a greater length of time than 24 hours after the cessation of any storm or snow or sleet. When ice is formed on any sidewalk, it shall be the duty of the owner or occupant of property adjoin thereto to remove the same as soon as it has formed, and to cause a sufficient quantity of sale, sawdust, sand or ashes to be strewn on the sidewalk in such a manner as will render it safe for person walking thereon.
Sec. 94-8. - Depositing on public property - No person shall remove any snow or ice from any private property, including any private driveway, road or parking area, and deposit the same in or upon any public property, including streets, sidewalks, crosswalks, ditches and gutters.
