City of Bay City recently issued the following announcement.
All week we’ve been talking about the James Clements Municipal Airport, including some fun facts you might not know about this hidden gem. Today we want to focus on WHO uses it and WHY. Airport Manager Jeff Koons said there truly is a variety of people.
Many planes that fly in are here on business. They may be out-of-town professionals who are meeting with someone in our region – or it could be local pilots who fly out to do the same. Koons said we get a fair-amount of transient pilots who are stopping here on a journey to somewhere else. They get fuel, stretch their legs and rest. This summer we had several people stop on their way to the airshow in Oshkosh, Wisc. Some of those visitors borrow our courtesy car (new this year) to go grab a bite to eat. Speaking of the courtesy car, Koons said he recently had a group of friends fly in to James Clements from Traverse City and Ann Arbor – just to visit one of our restaurants and used the courtesy car to get there.
Koons said we also have visits from our armed forces. The military has used our airport for night vision training and the U.S. Coast Guard has stopped here as well.
Bay County Mosquito Control runs its spring program from the airport each you and we can’t forget the airshows, fly-ins and other events here over the years.
Evidently, the James Clements Municipal Airport is used for a variety of reasons by locals and out-of-state visitors!
