City of Auburn issued the following announcement on Sept 18.
IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING WATER SERVICES:
Beginning September 20th, the City of Auburn will be flushing fire hydrants throughout the city. This will take approximately 1-2 weeks to complete. During this time there may be intermittent changes in water pressure, and/or temporary discoloration of water. Do not be alarmed, this is common when cleaning out our water lines.
If you notice discoloration, simply let your cold water tap run for a couple of minutes until the water clears. Temporary discoloration only affects the appearance of the water - it does not cause a health or safety risk. Prolonged discoloration can be reported to DPW at (989) 662-6761.
It is suggested to avoid washing laundry during hydrant flushing as it could discolor white/light colored clothing. Make sure water is running clear at the tap before starting laundry.
This task is performed to ensure adequate water flow is available and helps improve water quality by flushing out the sediment that naturally accumulates in pipes.
