City of Alma issued the following announcement on Aug 20.
Our department is receiving phone calls from people being told they have failed to appear on a subpoena or notice to appear at court, from our department phone number, 463-8317.
We are not making these phone calls! If you answer you can either hang up, or let the caller know that you are aware of the scam.
This is commonly referred to as spoofing; using a known number in order to have you answer. Please share and let your friends and family who are not on social media know about this as well. **We will NEVER ask you to buy money cards, scratch off the security numbers and read them over the phone.
** Please don't fall for these awful scams.
