FiveOnFriday answers come from Julie Chatfiel

Education

City of Bay City recently issued the following announcement.

Good morning! This week’s #FiveOnFriday answers come from Julie Chatfield. She’s been with the city for three years.

1. What is your job title and what department/division are you part of?

I am the Human Resources Assistant in our Human Resources Department.

2. How would you explain your job to someone?

No two days are ever the same. Most of my job is done here in the office but what task I’m working on changes often. There’s a fair amount of paperwork to do in HR but we also spend a lot of time with employees who need us for various reasons. They may stop in or call, and we work to get them answers or whatever resolution is necessary. I also sit in on all job interviews, handle new employee orientation, do certain pension-related tasks, and much more. Bottom-line, we focus on the human aspect of human relations.

3. What is your proudest accomplishment as a City of Bay City employee?

I would have to say navigating the COVID-19 pandemic. Everyone came to us for the policy, which changed often. It was up to us to update, explain and enforce everything COVID-19 related. Multiple times a day we would receive calls about someone who was positive or had been in contact with someone who tested positive. Sometimes that work would take up our entire day.

4. Where is your favorite place to eat or shop in Bay City?

I really love Ole Tyme Broadway! I used to go there with my grandparents as a kid, now I enjoy taking my children. The atmosphere and food are great.

5. How does your job make a difference?

I like to think we build positive relationships with our employees. We are the first to meet new employees – and that’s when we begin getting to know them.
