A conservative watchdog organization says that Gov. Gretchen Whitmer broke her own COVID-19 executive orders when she attended President Joe Biden’s inauguration in Washington D.C. on Jan. 20, according to Michigan Capitol Confidential.
Michigan Rising Action declared in an email that a Jan. 13 order from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services limits outdoor gatherings in the state to a maximum of 25 people.
Whitmer tweeted an image of herself at the inauguration ceremony, where well over 25 people were present. The executive order says, however, that the 25-person limit can be overlooked for voting or “official election-related activities.”
In October of last year, Whitmer criticized former President Donald Trump for holding campaign rallies in Michigan. “This is a recipe for disaster, and we have seen COVID outbreaks as a result of these rallies," Whitmer said, according to Michigan Capitol Confidential. "I’m encouraging Michigan citizens: Don’t attend events like this.”
