The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) recently announced that it has issued a new order extending the existing COVID-19 epidemic order until Sunday, Dec. 20, according to Michigan Capitol Confidential.
On Nov 18., Gov. Gretchen Whitmer implemented the current orders in response to surging numbers of coronavirus cases, according to Michigan.gov. The orders shuttered indoor dining for bars and restaurants, closed in-person learning for high schools and also put limits on group sizes at private social gatherings. Restrictions were placed on group activities and casinos, and movie theaters and bowling alleys were ordered to close.
The restrictions were originally scheduled to be in place until Dec. 8, but this new order will extend existing measures almost an additional two weeks.
“Hope is on the horizon, but we need an additional 12 days to determine the full impact of the Thanksgiving holiday on our efforts to mitigate the spread of the virus,” Whitmer told Michigan Capitol Confidential.
