A Freeland resident and Convention of States Action Regional Director Catherine Zemanek spoke about all things voting.
Zemanek is enthusiastic about participating in this year's general election and plans to vote on every race down the ballot. She had intended to be a poll worker in this year's election, but a wrench was thrown into that plan because her husband recently tested positive for COVID-19 and she needed to quarantine.
When asked about whether or not voting is paramount, Zemanek stressed the importance and even went as far as to say that she wishes it was "less important."

"Because I'm a small-government person, and I believe in the control being at the state level, so I also pay great attention to my local races, as well as the state races," Zemanek told the Tri-City Sun. "Particularly in my county, which is Saginaw County, the Democrats have controlled our county commission... for at least 50 years, and we have the potential to get the majority this year, so that's a race I'm watching very closely. It's been 6-5 for years and years, and there are some great candidates who have potential to win their elections."
Republicans holding on to the House of Representatives in Michigan is a focus for Zemanek, and she wants to vote for the candidate that represents her best in the 94th District.
"I've never missed a general election, so I believe every election is important. I think that four years from now, it's going to be just as important as it is today. I just can't believe the number of people who don't vote in the presidential election," she told the Tri-City Sun.
The escalating tensions are a driving force in Zemanek's belief that this year may be different than those past.
"Well, I think that the left has certainly decided that they're not going to hide who they are anymore. Their platform involves socialist policies, and we have to -- if we believe in the original intent of our Constitution -- we have to stop what's going on. We did that in 2016 by electing Donald Trump, but it's only escalated. So, yes, this is probably the most important election that I've witnessed in my lifetime," Zemanek said.
