As COVID-19 proves to be a major crisis in the state and the country, U.S. Rep. John Moolenaar, a Republican, has announced funding for another major crisis: flooding.
He announced federal disaster aid for Michigan flood relief on Facebook on July 10. He shared a White House declaration that confirmed the aid for Michiganders impacted by flooding in May.
Those who need assistance can apply at DisasterAssistance.gov or call 1-800-621-FEMA, or 1-800-462-7585 for the speech- or hearing-impaired.
The White House declaration reads: “Today, President Donald J. Trump declared that a major disaster exists in the State of Michigan and ordered federal assistance to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by severe storms and flooding from May 16 to May 22, 2020,” according to Rep. Moolenaar’s Facebook page.
Assistance comes in the form of grants, temporary housing, home repairs and loans. Federal funding is also available for the state to distribute to nonprofit organizations, as well as for hazard mitigation assistance via cost sharing.
