DELTA COLLEGE: Delta College again receives gold status from veterans group

Vets

Delta College issued the following announcement on May 20.

Delta College has again been named a Gold-Status Veteran-Friendly School for 2019-2020 by the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency.

MVAA’s program recognizes institutions that are committed to supporting the needs of veterans and military-connected students. Schools can receive bronze, silver or gold status and they are evaluated based on several factors, including a veteran-specific website, an active student veterans club, an on-campus veteran’s coordinator, and the availability of career services, resources and advising.

Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Retired Andrew Ornelas, Delta’s veterans coordinator, and his team work with about 200 student veterans and their dependents each semester.

“We want to make sure our student veterans feel at home when they are at Delta,” said Ornelas. “Many of the people in the Veteran’s Services office are veterans themselves or have a military background, so they are well-equipped to help students make a successful transition to college.”

One key benefit Delta offers student veterans is the in-district tuition rate for all who are funding their education through the G.I. Bill, regardless of where they live.

In February, Delta also received recognition from Victory Media. The college was named a top 10 military friendly community college in the nation for dedicating resources to ensure military students are successful.
