Under Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s instructions, school districts were instructed to introduce and approve an academic plan by the end of April. Saginaw public school district Superintendent Ramont Roberts says that the district has introduced its plan. According to MLive, the Saginaw plan introduces a hybrid system of education, whereby students can study online and have hard copies of the material picked up or delivered to them.
“Ours will be a hybrid plan,” Roberts said. “It will have an online option, but we will also have hard copies of materials available for students.”
Gov. Whitmer has suspended in-person instruction for the remainder of the school year in a bid to prevent the spread of COVID-19. School districts in mid-Michigan area, as well as around the country, have been left scrambling to find ways to continue classes.
Parents in the school district have been asked to take an online survey to indicate whether they have reliable Internet and a computer their children can use for online classes. Food distribution for students will continue as planned, with details posted on the district’s Facebook page.
