Two Saginaw soup kitchens are offering takeout meals for the hungry during the coronavirus outbreak.
MLive reports the East Side Soup Kitchen, located inside the Hunger Solution Center, will provide takeout lunches from 11 a.m. to noon on weekdays until further notice.
“We are committed to providing nutritious meals to our guests -- safely, efficiently and always with dignity and respect. Even beyond our role of providing meals, we serve as a community hub and gathering place, so this was a tough decision to make,” Diane Keenan, East Side Soup Kitchen Board President said in a Facebook statement. “We’ll continue to do what we’ve always done: Love our neighbors. Feed the hungry. Serve with mercy and compassion. We are operating with an abundance of caution out of care and concern for all those we serve — and all those who make our ministry possible.”
Pam Cole, interim soup kitchen director, said in all of her years at the soup kitchen, she's never seen anything like this. “We’re honestly not sure what to expect — nobody is — but we are collaborating with our neighbors at Hidden Harvest and with many other community partners to make sure all who need a meal are fed — especially during this time," Cole said in a statement to MLive.
