Mid Michigan College, a public community college that has locations in Harrison and Mount Pleasant, is asking voters for an additional 0.6268 mills, according to MLive. It would boost the college’s millage rate by 1.85 mills for 10 years, according to a press release from Mid Michigan College. A millage rate is the tax rate used to calculate local property taxes based on an amount per every $1,000 of a property's assessed value, according to Investopedia.
The revenue would be used to pay for advanced technology for students and academic programs, as well as operational costs for the college.
Mid Michigan College was established in 1965, making it the state’s 25th community college.
Voters in the Beaverton, Clare, Farwell, Gladwin and Harrison school districts will decide on the millage on March 10. Taxpayers who own property or live in those school districts are eligible for a lower tuition rate if they attend the school, and their dependents are eligible as well.
