Join Rev. Dr. Lynne Alcott Kogel, Visiting Scholar of University of Michigan’s Department of Middle East Studies for an illustrated lecture she will take you on a pictorial journey of "Recent Discoveries of Ancient Manuscripts"

from Mount Sinai’s Monastery of St. Catherine where the Codex Sinaiticus was “discovered” in 1884…

then up the Nile toward Oxyrhychus where 3rd century papyrus Gospels and letters of Paul were found amid rubbish in 1897…

then further up the Nile to Nag Hammadi where farmers uncovered ancient papyrus manuscripts of the Gospel of Thomas in 1945…

and finally to Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were happened upon by shepherd boys in 1947.

What impact have these discoveries made on our understanding of the Bible and the development of Christian creeds?

The Michigan Center for Early Christian Studies is sponsoring the lecture, taking place 

Monday, Nov.4 at 6:45 pm in the Herrick District Library (Holland, MI) 

Tuesday, Nov.5 at 6:45 in the Grand Rapids Public Library.
