City of St. Louis issued the following announcement on Nov 5.

The Gateway Transportation Center (GTC) and the National Council of Jewish Women St. Louis (NCJWSTL) have partnered to install Human Trafficking awareness posters that help create awareness of and stop Human Trafficking.

“I am grateful for the efforts by NCJWSTL to combat human trafficking in the St. Louis region,” said Comptroller Darlene Green. “Human trafficking is a hidden epidemic and the City of St. Louis is glad to support NCJWSTL’s program at the Gateway Transportation Center.”

Designed by NCJWSTL, the poster engages the public in the topic of human trafficking, and it supplies ways for victims to seek help. The poster is also installed at St. Louis County offices and at Northwest Crossing.

“When we started our work designing this poster, we set a goal to have messaging and images that would get the attention of the general public as well as victims that might be passing through our region,” said NCJWSTL volunteer Mary Murphy. “For the public, we wanted a poster that would both inform and provide a better understanding of what human trafficking looks like. We wanted the poster to generate a conversation, encourage questions, and enable our community to take action when they suspected something. But most importantly, we wanted a poster that would catch the attention of any victim that walked by. We wanted information that the victim of human trafficking would use to get help.”

NCJWSTL identified Human Trafficking as a significant problem in our region six years ago, after the U.S. Department of Justice identified St. Louis in the top 20 jurisdictions for human trafficking. Since then NCJWSTL has worked tirelessly to build awareness and change public policy to help combat human trafficking in our region and throughout the State of Missouri.

Located in downtown St. Louis, the Gateway Transportation Center is the City of St. Louis multimodal transportation hub for passenger train, long distance bus, public light rail and public bus service.
